The Giant Comet Moth's combination of extraordinarily long hindwing tails, bright colors and tremendous size is unparalleled in the insect world. In this very delicate species, the long tails of the males often break off after just a few flights in the wild.

As adults have no ability to feed, their short adult life seems to be exclusively for breeding. The males have antennae so sensitive they can detect mere molecules of female pheromones miles away.

Wingspan is up to 6.5" . Overall length can reach 10".
