Part spring, part autumn, the tiny Nymphalidae that comprise this piece are male and female of the same species.

As is so often the case with butterflies, the males dazzle with patches of metallic blue, while the females are less brilliantly adorned in earthtones punctuated by elegant eyespots.

The pairing results in a piece that is at once intricate and pastoral.
