Lacking the shining, electric coloration of many male Morpho species, the elegant catenarius is unique among Morphos.

Coloration varies from powdery mint-blue to almost white. Its semi-translucent wings allow more of the underwing markings to be visible. It boasts large populations in its native Argentina and multiple subspecies have been described.

It is medium sized with about a 4" wingspan.
